Listen to Obituary

Kofi Osae-Kwapong, a resident of White Plains, NY, passed away peacefully on June 6th, 2025, at White Plains Hospital, at the age of 71. Born in Akropong- Akwapim Ghana, on July 3, 1953, Kofi was the cherished son of the late Kwadwo Osae-Kwapong and Matilda (Akuffo) Osae-Kwapong.

On January 30th, 1984 he married his love, Joyce E. Brown, who survives him at home. Together, they built a beautiful life and shared 41 years of unwavering devotion and companionship.

Beyond his loving wife, Kofi's legacy lives on through his devoted children, Kwabea O'Brien, Kwasi Osae-Kwapong, and son-in-law Jim O'Brien. He was also a proud and adoring grandfather to his grandson, Aidan who brought immense joy and laughter into his life. He is further survived by his four brothers, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories and bonds.

A Life Well-Lived

Kofi was a man of high intellect, humor, and wisdom. He had a gregarious and welcoming personality, able to easily strike up a conversation with anyone he came across.

He dedicated his career to finance where he worked for a number of companies including American Express and Price Waterhouse Coopers. Outside of work, Kofi had a passion for mentoring young Ghanians recently immigrated to the U.S. as they navigated the world of corporate America. Kofi was a member of the Kwakwaduam society, dedicated to supporting maternal care in Ghana, providing prenatal vitamins, fetal dopplers, birthing kits and a host of other medical supplies to midwives, health centers and clinics in Ghana. He loved jazz music and cheering on his New York Sports teams (the NY Knicks, the NY Giants, and Tennis).

His Impact and Spirit

Kofi will be remembered for his infectious laugh, insightful advice and ability to make everyone feel welcome. He touched the lives of many with his kindness, generosity, and guidance, with his children and nephews frequently coming to him for advice. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends that he had from his childhood days in Ghana. He instilled in his children and grandchildren the values of excellence, perseverance, and kindness.
