Rogelio F. Lucas

Rogelio F. Lucas, 83, of Scarsdale, New York, passed away on 10 November 2021.  He was born to parents, Lucas Viray Lucas and Gertrudes Medrano Francisco, on 23 March 1938 in the Philippines.

Rogelio graduated from the University of the Philippines in 1956. He went on to study medicine at the University of the East College of Medicine and graduated with distinction in 1961. He completed his training, residency, and fellowship in Pediatrics and Pathology in the United States from 1962 until 1968.  He then returned to the Philippines and assumed an academic appointment at University of the East while engaged in private practice from 1968 to 1971. Rogelio returned to the United States and accepted academic appointments for Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Columbia University Babies Hospital until 1975. Thereafter, he started his own family practice in Spanish Harlem of New York City where he provided healthcare to the underprivileged until 2015. To further his knowledge in operating his own practice, he decided to pursue study in Business Administration at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, earning his Masters in 2003.

Rogelio served in the United States Military, Army Reserve, for 10 years starting in 1984.  He was appointed Commander of 320th Evac Hospital from 1991 until 1994.

Rogelio is survived by his wife, Lydia Arayata Lucas, with whom he had eight children. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolina Lucas Shea and her husband, Kevin Shea. The seven children are Anna Marie Lucas Tee, Josephine Lucas, Joanne Lucas, Dolores Lucas and husband, Craig Nunn, Maria Lourdes Lucas, Jonathan Jerry Lucas and wife, Melanie Lucas, and Roger John Lucas. He leaves behind eight grandchildren, Elana Tee, Natalie Tee, Dylan Tee, Lara Nunn, Madison Nunn, Morgan Jeanna Lucas, Joshua Manuel Lucas, and Julius Lucas. He leaves behind three sisters, Elizabeth, Reyestrellita, and Corazon. He will be greatly missed by nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends from the United States and the Philippines.
