Philip Jay Hasluck

March 15, 1931 — November 4, 2021

White Plains

Philip J. Hasluck, a long-time White Plains resident, died peacefully at home on November 4, 2021 at age 90.

Phil was born in 1931 in New York City to Pauline (Delaney) and Neville R. Hasluck. He grew up in Jackson Heights, Queens, and spent many sunburned summers on the beach in Point Lookout, Long Island.

He was a graduate of Hofstra University and started a career in insurance after serving in the U.S. Army.  He met his beloved wife, Ginny, of Hamilton, OH, on a Caribbean cruise and they were married soon after and moved to White Plains, NY.  In the 1970’s, he bought and ran a local business, Lovas Wine and Liquor, on Main Street, where he remained until his retirement.

After he retired, Phil loved to travel around the world with Ginny. They also took advantage of all New York City had to offer, enjoying numerous Broadway shows, concerts, sporting events and restaurants. Phil also volunteered his time.  In his later years, he became an active member of the Church in the Highlands, serving on its Board. He was also a Board member of Halfway Houses of Westchester.

Phil is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia (Gast), his daughters Lynne (and her partner, Robert Brooks) and Jill (Anthony) Russo and his cherished grandchildren, Anthony, Vincent and Kristen Russo. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, John (Jack) R. Hasluck.

Phil will be sadly missed by his best pal, his dog Coco.

Known affectionately as “Red” and “Liquor Store Phil,” he was a great friend, neighbor and mentor to many, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Phil loved to talk about sports, especially baseball and his beloved New York Yankees. Wherever he is now, all can be sure he is counting the days until pitchers and catchers report.

“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside you every day.”

A memorial service to celebrate Phil’s life will be held on April 23, 2022 at 12:30PM at the Memorial United Methodist Church in White Plains.
