Myrna Lynn (Topol) Lieber

January 13, 1946 — November 22, 2022

Hartsdale, NY

Myrna Lynn Lieber (nee Topol), recently of Hartsdale, NY and formerly of Massapequa, NY, passed away peacefully the evening of Tuesday, November 22nd after a brief but fierce battle against pancreatic cancer.

Myrna will be forever remembered with boundless gratitude, love, and fondness by her family and the countless friends that cherished her. She is survived by her children Hal and Jaime Lieber and David Lieber, her four cherished grandchildren, Eliana, Stuart, Bird, and Woods, and an entire community of cousins and friends to whom she was the shared bond of social connection and joy. The true matriarch of our family, Myrna was a force of nature, with a sharp and ever-present sense of humor. She knew when to offer sympathy, criticism, a kind ear or a strong drink. She played a mean game of mah jongg, was a lifelong intellectual and organizational leader, and delighted in playing games with and reading to her grandchildren.

Born on January 13, 1946 in New York City, she spent weekends with her large family, growing up side by side with her many cousins on the water off Long Island. She attended SUNY Stonybrook and after marrying Stuart K. Lieber, of blessed memory, raised her two sons in Massapequa NY, where she worked for and eventually owned and self-published a respected monthly dog show newsletter, the Match Show Bulletin, for over 30 years. A dedicated and involved individual and leader, Myrna was an institution in the congregation of Massapequa's Temple Judea, where she served in multiple roles over the years from Sisterhood to Temple President, and was nothing less than infamous within the congregation and community. A great many grown children think of Myrna as a second mother, and even more adults think of her as an adopted sister. She was truly loved by and touch the lives of most people who knew her, and will be a sorely missed light in the world.

A memorial service for Myrna will be held at Congregation Kol Ami, in White Plains, NY, on Friday, November 25 at 9:30am, followed by burial and graveside prayer at Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Queens, NY, next to Stuart, her partner of 35 years. Her family will be sitting Shiva at the home of Hal and Jaime Lieber, 127 Greenacres Ave, White Plains, on Saturday 11/26, 7-9pm, Sunday 11/27, 2-4pm and 7-9pm, and Monday, 11/28, 7-9pm. In lieu of flowers or condolence gifts, donations may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or to a local animal shelter, in honor of Myrna's great love of dogs and support for rescue organizations.
