Obituary of Leonard L. Steiner

Leonard L. Steiner, 92.   It is with great sadness that we announce that Leonard L. Steiner passed away on July 6, 2021 at his home in Harrison, NY.  He was predeceased in 1998 by his loving wife Arlyne who he cherished.  Leonard is survived by his devoted partner and companion in life, Joyce West, who brought joy and love to Leonard’s last years, his brother, Bernard (Flora), his children, who he adored and who adored him, his son, Robin Steiner (Katherine), and daughters, Ellyn Steiner Greenspan (Michael) and Beth Steiner Sinatro (Timothy).  He is also survived by his devoted grandchildren who he was endlessly proud of and thrilled by, Erin Leigh Steiner, Allison Steiner, Samantha Weiss (Michael), Lesley Greenspan, Darren Sinatro (Selin), Alec Sinatro, and his wonderful new great granddaughter, Mila.

Leonard was an amazing man. He grew up in a crowded, extended family apartment in Brooklyn NY where he attended Brooklyn Tech.  He graduated from Cornell University, where he played tennis to acclaim and is in the Cornell Athletic Hall of Fame for Tennis.  After graduating Cornell, Leonard served as a first lieutenant in the US Air Force in Korea.  Leonard then returned to New York where he worked in the real estate business for 40 years, retiring from Steiner Clateman Associates, where he converted thousands of apartments in NYC to condos and coops.  Leonard loved his wife, children and grandchildren, tennis, golf, and discussing politics. He and Arlyne travelled the world together, and in her final years, Leonard devoted himself to Arlyne, always at her side.

Funeral services will be held at Ballard Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Avenue, White Plains NY, on Friday, July 9th at 11:30am, with burial immediately following the service at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 80 Commerce St., Mt. Pleasant NY.  Contributions may be made to NYU Langone’s Perlmutter Cancer Center Ovarian and Gynecological Cancer Fund or White Plains Hospital.
