Laurence Broderick

January 10, 1976 — October 26, 2021

White Plains

Laurence Timothy Broderick, a resident of Scarsdale, passed away unexpectedly on October 26, 2021. Laurence was born to the late Timothy Broderick, and Elizabeth “Linda” Broderick (Cusack). Laurence was a proud son, brother to Patrick (Eileen), and uncle to Landon. He also leaves behind many extended family members and devoted friends.

Laurence comes from a rich Catholic tradition, attending Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Scarsdale, Regis High School in Manhattan (’94), and the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana (’98). He was proud to have served the parish of the Church of Saint Anthony of Padua, West Harrison, as Director of Music, Principal Organist, and Choir Master. Before Saint Anthony’s, he was an Organist, Associate Choral Director and directed several Liturgical Music Programs at various churches throughout the Archdiocese as well as at Morrissey Manor Chapel, University of Notre Dame.  Most recently, Laurence cherished teaching students at the IHM School.

After family and friends, Laurence’s greatest joy in life was his love of music.  Laurence has earned accolades as an organist, pianist, choral conductor, and professional tenor. In his youth, he began a devotion to music, learning the harpsichord and concert piano at Hoff-Barthelson Music School. He then discovered a vocal talent as a member of the Notre Dame Glee Club. He formed a career as a professional lyric tenor, training with masters of vocal performance and opera at The Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music and Career Bridges. He performed throughout the United States and the world - at Carnegie Hall in New York; Germany, Italy, Ireland, Israel, and Albania - roles such as Trin, Puccini’s La Fanciulla del West - New York City Opera, Fenton, Falstaff and Hoffman, Les Contes d’Hoffmann - Sarasota Opera, Dr Sun Yat-Sen, Huang Ruo’s Dr Sun Yat-Sen, New York.

He was cantor at many local and international funerals, memorials and commemorations.  He took this responsibility very sincerely and sought to provide families the solace and strength that can come through song. Laurence will be missed by all those fortunate to have experienced his dedication, heart and voice.

Family and friends may visit on Monday, 11/1/21, from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Ballard-Durand Funeral Home located in White Plains, NY.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, 11/2/21, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale.  Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
