Joyce (Ramjohn) Sampson

February 16, 1936 — April 24, 2022

White Plains

Joyce Grace Ramjohn Sampson transitioned peacefully from this life on April 24, 2022, at her home in White Plains, New York. Joyce was born in South Oropouche, Trinidad on February 16, 1936, to Solomon and Doris Ramjohn. In February 1954, Joyce married Arnott Lloyd Sampson, a wonderful man, and father. That union produced six children.

Joyce migrated to the United States in 1968 where she lived and enjoyed life to its fullest in her own special and magnificent way. Her success motto was - "it is not how much you earn; but what you do with what you earn".

Joyce was an incredible matriarch and visionary. She was a caring individual, with a focus on empowering her family. After working as a personal banker for twenty-seven years, she retired at age fifty-seven to spend more time with her children and grandchildren.

Joyce was an active member of her community. She was a member of the Grace Church Choir since April 1975 and served on the Grace Church Welcoming Committee and Caribbean Ministries. She was a founding member of Grace Church Community Center, renamed - Lifting Up Westchester. In addition to those memberships, Joyce also passionately believed in giving to her community as a volunteer. She served on the Grace Church pastoral care committee, volunteered with the pastoral team at White Plains Hospital for thirty-seven years, and with the Red Cross for over fifteen years. Joyce's selfless commitment to service positively impacted many lives. Her dedication to her family and community will be deeply and dearly missed.

Among her many hobbies, Joyce loved traveling, gardening and sewing. Her highlight though was traveling. During the course of her life, she visited the five continents and over forty countries. One of her most cherished moments was when in 2017, she visited Chichen Itza, Mexico, where she accomplished her goal of seeing all of the official seven wonders of the world.

Joyce Grace Ramjohn Sampson is survived by her sister, Eastlyn Ramjohn, her children - Donna (Roop), Rae (Augustine), Rickardo, Sorraya (Wayne), and Hayden (Lori), six grandchildren - Lawrence, Krystal (JaQuan), Kelly (Nate), Joseph, Ashley and Christopher, seven greatgrandchildren - Jordyn, Shemmyah, Nickolai, Jadynn, Eli, Riley and Grant, and many dear and precious family members and friends. While too many to mention, Joyce also shared a special bond with Eileen McClean, Adeline Vaughan, Wayne/Dawad Philip, and Knolly Hull.

She was preceded in death by her parents Solomon and Doris Ramjohn, Ceralise John/Nen (Stepmother), Frankie Ramjohn (brother), Norma Wright (sister), two sons, Anthony and Nigel Sampson, and Arnott Sampson.
