Jimmy Thomas

June 3, 1941 — August 20, 2021

White Plains

Jimmy Thomas was born Monday, June 2, 1941 in Mount Gilead, North Carolina, the third child of Reid Horace Thomas and Annie Frank Thomas. The Lord called him to Heaven on Friday, August 20, 2021. Upon seeing his son at his bedside, he departed his earthly life into an eternity of peace.

Jimmy joined Thomasville Missionary Baptist Church and gave his life to the Lord at an early age. He graduated from the Montgomery County School System in 1961 and went on to attend North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University, originally known as North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts, in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Shortly thereafter, he relocated to White Plains, New York and was offered a position at the Fitzpatrick Pontiac by owner Dave Fitzpatrick, which opened the door to an esteemed career in the automotive industry. Jimmy’s accomplishments include serving as a General Motors Instructor, a Body Shop Manager, and the Owner and Operator of Crown Auto Body Shop of New Rochelle until his retirement in 2005.

After his move to White Plains, Jimmy became a member of Calvary Baptist Church. When he met his future wife Estelle, he began attending the nearby Bethel Baptist Church with her. They would later marry at Bethel on July 31, 1966 and their son Kyle was born four years later in Mount Vernon, New York. In 1971, Jimmy and Estelle moved to  “Co-op City” in the Bronx, where they lived together for 50 years.

Many know Jimmy to be a steadfast fisherman, a great gardener, and a wonderful cook. He was also an active bowler in his youth and a vibrant storyteller. He lived a full life and was truly loved and respected by all who knew him. To have Jimmy as a friend was to gain a faithful person until the end.

Jimmy leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved wife, Estelle Dungie Thomas; devoted son, Kyle L. Thomas; adored grandchildren, Aaryn P. White and Zachary K. Thomas; two brothers, Elise Thomas and Timothy Thomas; four sisters, Reathel McPhail, Chucky Leake, Charlene Watkins, and Annie (Bentley) Baldwin; one brother-in-law, Elias Dungie IV; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and life-long friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Reid and Annie Thomas; and his brothers, Theodore Thomas and Joe Murrill Thomas.

We will all miss Jimmy dearly but are certain he is rejoicing in Heaven with the other saints. He is resting in peace with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Glory be to God for He loves us all.
