Huguette Del Ponte, of Danbury, Connecticut, went home to Jesus on May 15, 2023, at the age of 76 due to Multiple complications of a ruptured diverticulum.
Huguette was born on March 30,1947, to Marie-Ange and Antonio Fillion in Jonquiere Quebec, Canada. At the age of 18 she migrated to the United States to learn English. In 1965, she met the love of her life Antonio Del Ponte. After a brief courtship they married in 1966, and called Dobbs Ferry NY home where Antonio owned a local pizzeria. 1969 was a busy year and they decided to sell the pizzeria, move to Elmsford, NY, open the famous Del Ponte’s Italian restaurant in New Rochelle, NY and most important start a family. Huguette took on the roll as event planner and bookkeeper for the restaurant as well as a mother to their 3 children Michele, Sylvianne and Steven. Over their 57 years of marriage, Huguette worked at their restaurant for 32 years, raised a family and remained an active volunteer in her community and school - most notably Tuesday “pizza Day”.
In 1992, the family moved to New Rochelle NY to be closer to the family restaurant. With her unwavering faith she found enjoyment in her church where she could sing in the choir and spread the word of God. Huguette was a strong believer in faith and family, while she raised 3 children and 7 grandchildren. In 2002 they decided to close the family business and enjoy retirement. Unfortunately, in 2008 Huguette was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. She received a single lung transplant in 2016 which greatly improved her quality of life for 6 years, until July 2022 when she suffered a ruptured diverticulum. She remained in the hospital until she passed peacefully surrounded by family.
Huguette is survived by her loving husband Antonio Del Ponte; three children Michele, Sylvianne and Steven; seven grandchildren Jessica, Steven, Matthew, Jaclyn, Dean, Samantha and Gianna. She is also survived by siblings Jeanine, Alain, Gille, Louise and Bruno. She was preceded in death by her sister Yolanda.
