Dianne Lynn Gossett

January 14, 1957 — February 21, 2022

Elmsford

Dianne Lynn (Saunders) Gossett died on February 21, 2022 at Westchester Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Born January 14, 1957, she was raised a majority of her young life in Muncie, Indiana. She lived for periods in New York City, Irvington, NY, Ardsley, NY, and spent her final years in Elmsford, NY. She was a retiree of Columbia University where she had many roles within the Office of Facilities Management. Her responsibilities included care of the grounds on the Morningside Campus as well as supervision of the facilities at the Baker Athletics Complex and Nevis Laboratories.

Dianne was passionate about many things. She enjoyed working outdoors and had a love of flowers. In High School and College she was a competitive swimmer and tennis player. But most of all, she was a loving mother. Survived by her son Bryant D. Gossett, the two had so many fun times and adventures. Nothing meant more to her than her son. She looked forward to his birthday and holidays. She spent much time in the kitchen preparing his special meals and baking wonderful treats. Dianne was looking forward to Bryant’s wedding to Marissa Watson this coming fall.

Dianne loved renovating and decorating projects. She painted countless rooms, planted and nurtured a wide variety of plants and was always repurposing forgotten treasures and antiques. Her creativity was boundless.

She found great joy being with her cousin Elizabeth McCaffery and her family. They shared many fun filled vacations on lakes and beaches. Dianne found joy in the sun and water.

She married James Gossett in 1982. They later separated in 2010, but maintained an amicable relationship.

In her final days, God saw her getting tired and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around her and whispered “Come to Me”. With tearful eyes we watched her, and saw her pass away. Although we loved her dearly, we could not make her stay. Her golden heart stopped beating, hard-working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best.

No funeral or memorial services are planned at this time. Donations can be made in her memory to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
