Claire Skilowitz

February 15, 1925 — July 13, 2021

White Plains

Claire Gladys Skilowitz, resident of Scarsdale, New York, died Tuesday July 13th at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. She was 96. Claire was a beloved mother, a caring and compassionate nana, and a  dear companion to her sister, Eileen. She is survived by two children, Amy and Paul, who loved her very much, and a granddaughter, Hayley, who adored her as well. Claire was an artist who enjoyed painting and loved music, theater and ballet. Born in the Bronx on February 15, 1925 to Louis Hornstein, a fabric cutter, and the former Frances Hopkins, she graduated from Walton High School. She was married for 64 years to Jack Skilowitz, a supermarket executive, before his death in 2009. Claire could be brassy and very funny; she liked a good time. But most of all she was a strong, loving woman who brought up her children with respect and love, and she will be missed by her extended family and many friends. Her funeral service is being held at Sharon Gardens on July 18th at 10:00 in the morning. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the American Ballet Company.
