Carol Weber Brandi

July 20, 1940 — May 10, 2022

White Plains

Carol Brandi of Ardsley New York was born on July 20th, 1940 in Jamaica Queens and was the only child of Arthur and Geneva Weber. She grew up in Wantagh, Long Island and spent her summers on a farm in the Catskills. Carol and her parents were a loving, solid, close family and this is shown in extensive correspondence between herself and her parents during her time as an undergraduate at SUNY New Paltz graduating in 1962. After her time at New Paltz, Carol attended graduate school at Brown University gaining her Master's Degree in English Literature in 1965.
Carol married the love of her life, Frederic Brandi, in June 1966. They celebrated their 55th Wedding Anniversary last year.
Carol had a great desire to help others and once her children were at Middle School she retrained gaining qualifications in addictions counselling and social work. She worked for several organisations supporting people recovering from addiction or in need of more emotional or practical support. For many years she was a social worker with the Ladies Garment Workers Union in New York City. A demanding and challenging role which she was incredibly committed to, wanting to do her absolute best for those she was supporting.
After several years working as a Social Worker Carol then decided to take on the role of educator and worked teaching at Hunter College and Columbia University School of Social Work until she retired. She found these roles her most enjoyable.
Carol's great passion, however, was music. A gifted pianist from a very early age, Carol continued to play piano and sing throughout her life. She sang in many different choirs and choral groups and hosted fantastic Christmas carol parties with her husband Fred at their home in Ardsley. These parties were full of the joy of music and Christmas carols and were a diary highlight for all who attended. They are fondly remembered by her family as marking the start of their Christmas celebrations every year.
Carol was a great supporter of Hoff-Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale. She felt passionately about the value of music in lives of young people, enriching their learning and enhancing their lives.
In later life Carol and her husband Fred enjoyed travelling extensively in Europe, Alaska, Mexico and Australia and especially enjoyed visiting their grandchildren in England and North Queensland.
Carol will be greatly missed by all who knew her and all whose lives she touched. She will be lovingly remembered and is survived by her devoted husband Fred, her children Ted and Cara and her grandchildren Frederic, Finlay, Helen and Joel.
A funeral service will be held to remember Carol on Thursday 26th May at 11am at Greenville Community Church, 270 Ardsley Rd, Scarsdale.
