It is with sad hearts that we write about the death of our beloved William Tassani. Bill died on Sunday, June 30, 2024.
He will be missed by his loving family. Soon after graduating high school, Bill was drafted into the Army. World War II had begun. When Bill's training was completed, he was sent to North Africa for several months and to the China Burma India Theater. He was assigned to the medical depot on the Burma Road. Soon after his honorable discharge he attended and graduated from the New York Agricultural and Technical Institute in Upstate New York. Bill was hired by the New York Telephone Company, where he was a cable splicer for 10 years. Then he was promoted to engineer, where he spent 22 years in that department.
Bill married the love of his life, Diana Girillo on September 14th, 1957. They were devoted to each other for 67 years. The marriage resulted in the birth of Billy and Jane. Billy married Renee Limone and they had a daughter, Maia. Jane married Alfred Gonzalez and they had two children, Ashley (who married James Lynch) and Andrew. They all brought love and happiness to Bill.
Diana and Bill purchased a condo in Surfside Beach, South Carolina. They enjoyed the condo and made many friends. They loved it most when Billy and Jane came down with their families.
Bill was a life member of VFW Post 5463 and a life member of West Harrison Fire Department, where he was an administrative officer for many years. Bill also served on the committee of the local water company. Bill was a Republican District Leader.
On Bill's 100th Birthday, he was honored as the oldest living fireman of the West Harrison Fire Department. The Chief sent all apparatus along with a large number of firemen to present him with a plaque honoring him for his service. Bill was humbled and thrilled to be so honored.
A funeral mass will be held at Saint Anthony of Padua Church, West Harrison, NY on Friday, July 5, 2024 at 11AM, with a repass to follow.
