It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William Sorby, who passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026.

Billy, as he was known to most, is survived by his parents Rosanne Sorby, William and Wendy Sorby. He was a devoted older brother to Bryan (Jennifer). The two shared a special bond, working together, racing together, and just always being together. His favorite role was being an uncle to Cole, Chase, and Avery who loved and adored him.

Billy graduated from Westlake High School and spent his life working as an operating engineer and owner in Sorby Contracting, the family-owned construction business.

Outside of work, Billy found great joy in following and participating in all things drag racing, fishing, cheering on the New York Yankees, attending classic cars shows, and never missing a sporting event his nephews and niece had.

Billy will be remembered for his kind heart, quiet strength, and selfless nature. He leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a family who will miss his presence, his smile, and his unwavering love every day.

We know he was greeted in heaven by his favorite dog and friend, Buddy.

Family and friends are invited to gather for at Ballard-Durand Funeral home in Hawthorne on Thursday, July 2 from 4-8 p.m.
