Veronica E. D'Amato

Veronica “Vera” Elizabeth D’Amato (nee Smyth) of Staten Island, New York, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2022, at Calvary Hospital at the age of 87.  Vera was born in County Monaghan, Ireland, to Thomas and Sarah (nee Sreenan).  Vera was the second oldest of eight children and was raised in County Down, Northern Ireland.  Vera immigrated to the United States in 1960 where she worked as a nanny and hairdresser in New York City.  Vera was predeceased by her husband, Louis D’Amato, whom she married in 1973.  The loving couple lived in the South Beach section of Staten Island until Vera’s passing.  Vera was also predeceased by her parents, sister Mary Kearney, brother Thomas Smyth, sister-in-law Teresa Smyth, and brother-in-law Kieran Kearney.  She is survived by her brothers John, Patrick Joseph (Irene), Kevin (Rosemary), Desmond (Cathy), sister Rosaleen (Maurice) Caughey, and sister-in-law Celia Smyth, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Hawthorne Funeral Home on Friday, January 21, from 4-8pm.  Funeral Mass, Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY, on Saturday, January 22, at 10am. Interment to follow.
