Ulyesses Hilliard Jr. was born on June 17, 1945, in White Plains, NY to the late Ulyesses (Fats) Sr. and Marguerite Hilliard. Ulysses Jr., affectionately known as Peter, grew up in the Projects in White Plains, NY and attended White Plains public schools. His family later moved to Elmsford, NY.
On July 31, 1965 at the young age of 20 years old, Peter was drafted into the US Marine Corps. He served in the Vietnam War. Commander Hilliard received a Purple Heart, RVN Cross of Gallantry, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 star, Campaign Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. Commander Hilliard was honorably discharged with the rank as Sergeant on July 30, 1971. Peter was truly a war hero and we thank God for returning him back home to his family.
Peter worked for over 30 years for Westchester County in the Water Treatment Plant Dept. in Tarrytown, NY. Peter enjoyed watching sports, comedy, music and at times, was very long-winded when conversing . Peter was a very generous person and would freely give to help those in need. He would often say " God blessed me , so I am going to give to others in need." After his retirement Peter moved to Atlanta GA and later moved to North Carolina. Upon becoming ill Peter came back to New York and as his illness progressed he resided at the VA Nursing Home in Montrose, NY until his untimely death.
Peter leaves to cherish in his loving memory, his sister Patricia (Pat) Hilliard, his nephew Phillip Hilliard, and his nieces Penelope Hilliard, Judy Livingstone, Patricia Daugett ( Wayne) , and Peaches Oliver, and his Aunt Verdell Hilliard. Peter was predeceased by: his parents Ulyesses and Marguerite Hilliard, sisters, Pamela Hilliard-Thompson, Peri Hilliard, and nephew Patrick Hilliard. Peter is also survived by great nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends
