Susan M. Greco

Susan Greco, Hawthorne resident, passed away on September 19, 2022, at the age of 97, in the Bronx, New York.

Susie was born December 26, 1924 to Antonio and Amalia Barone Torres, in White Plains.  She attended White Plains schools and had her first job at a 5 & 10 store in White Plains.  During the war, Susie worked for Sonotone Hearing Aid Company that was contracted to make warfare components during WWII.

On August 17, 1947, she married John A. Greco at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in White Plains. Together they had three children.  In 1957, Susie and family moved to Nyack, where John had established Greco Paint & Wallpaper on Main Street.  In 1966 the family returned to Westchester, settling in Hawthorne.

Warren Avenue walkers will remember Susie working in her yard, with her Miniature Schnauzer, Tina, following her around.  She will also be remembered for the large family holiday dinners that were looked forward to annually.

Susie was predeceased by her husband John and her son-in-law John Simone, as well as four brothers, John, Joseph, Vincent (Jimmy), Michael, and four sisters, Virginia Fiore, Viola Cassia, Mary (Leeza) Holden, and Amelia (Dolly) Berwick.

She is survived by her three daughters, Christine Greco of Hawthorne, Diana Simone of Hopewell Junction, and Juliette Greco-Smith (Russell) of Beacon, as well as two grandchildren, Dena Simone and Steven Smith, and her sister Diana Lippert of East Hampton, Connecticut, and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the dedicated Calvary Hospital nursing staff, her amazing, dedicated doctor, and The Calvary Wound Team, who tended to the large pressure wound sustained at a local Westchester inpatient rehabilitation facility.
