Steven Garfing

April 11, 1956 — August 27, 2022

Morristown,NJ

Steven Ira Garfing, 66, of Morristown, New Jersey, passed away in the early morning hours of August 27, 2022.  Steve was born in Trenton, New Jersey, to Hyman and Deborah Garfing. He is survived by his loving wife, Ellen, son, Scott, daughter-in-law, Danielle, sister, Karen (Richard), and countless nieces and nephews.

Steve was an avid tennis player, a dedicated cycler, a loving friend, and most importantly, a devoted family man. Steve was a doer. He expressed love through action. He showed up to every single one of Scott’s college soccer games, even if they were six hours away, and picked Ellen up from her job as a nurse practitioner late at night so she did not have to drive home tired in the dark. His acts of service were endless. Steve loved sports and competition, and he instilled that love in his son. Weekends were filled with following his favorite teams. In this arena, his loyalty showed no bounds, and that includes his Jets fandom, getting season tickets in Scott’s high school years so they could spend Sundays together at the stadium. Steve’s empathy was always on display as well. After surviving his first battle with cancer, he began counseling others going through the experience. He was always available to friends to provide advice or a listening ear. Steve will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.

Funeral Services will be held at Hawthorne Funeral Home at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, August 31. Interment, Sharon Gardens Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y.

Refreshments will be served afterwards at a family member’s home in Irvington, NY (location to be named at the ceremony).  Because the hosts have infant children, they ask that attendees please take a Covid-19 rapid test the day before or day of the event.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
