Stanley Samson Abel peacefully passed away at his home in Scarsdale, New York on March 27, 2026 at the age of 94.
He was born on July 13, 1931 in New York City to Janet and Harry Abel and grew up in Lakewood, New Jersey. Stanley graduated from Lakewood High School and went on to Cornell University where he was a member of the golf team graduating in 1953. As a young man, he caddied at a local club in Lakewood, sparking a lifelong love of golf. After college, he served in the United States Army for two years.
Stanley began his career on Wall Street in 1956, joining Lehman Brothers as one of its early salesmen. In those formative years, he built his business through determination and personal connection, walking office to office throughout Manhattan to develop lasting client relationships. His entrepreneurial spirit and drive helped establish him as a respected presence in the industry during its early modern growth.
He later partnered with Gene Noser, and in 1975 they co-founded Abel Noser Corp. Together, they built the firm into an industry leader in investment services and trade analysis, pioneering innovative products and helping shape modern institutional trading practices. Stanley served as CEO for many years and remained deeply committed to the firm and its clients throughout his career.
Stanley met his beloved wife, Mary, in 1980, and they were married on November 29, 1986, sharing many happy years together. They welcomed their daughter Lizzy in 1989 and moved to Scarsdale the following year.
Outside of his professional life, he was an avid stamp collector and took great pride in the remarkable collections he assembled over the years. He loved to jog and developed an early interest in the sport, maintaining that passion throughout his life.
He will be remembered for his sharp wit, warm sense of humor, and his ability to never take himself too seriously-qualities that endeared him to all who knew him.
Stanley is survived by his treasured wife, Mary; his daughter, Lizzy, son in law Andrew; and his cherished grandsons, Theodore and Colin Bruckner.
