Roslyn L. Cowle

Roslyn L. Cowle (neé Lerner) 97, loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, formally of White Plains and Somers, NY, passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2021.

Affectionately known as “Roz” by all who loved her, she was born on October 15, 1924 to the late Max and Sonia Lerner in White Plains, NY.  After graduating White Plains High School, she traveled to California where she worked and developed her artistic talents designing and hand painting neckwear.  Upon returning to New York, she resumed her career as a textile artist and started a free-lance commercial venture called Mirror Monogram Ties, where she designed and hand painted ties repurposed from WWII parachute silk.

On June 26, 1949, Roz married her beloved husband Irv and settled in White Plains, NY.  Together, they founded Elmwood Country Day School in 1957, and owned and operated Elmwood Day Camp for the next 30 years.  During that time, Roz became the co-director and ran many aspects of the camp’s daily routines.  Amidst her very busy schedule, Roz managed to find time to attend and graduate from the College of New Rochelle with a degree in Fine Arts, where she truly honed her gifts as an artist.  She exhibited a number of her paintings at Greenburgh Art Shows.  In addition to these accomplishments, Roz devoted herself to raising and doting upon her four sons.

Soon after their retirement from their camping business, Roz and Irv settled in Heritage Hills, Somers, NY, where they enjoyed many wonderful years with friends and family.

Roz was also an active member of many clubs, charities, and activities including Hadassah, the Democratic League of Women Voters, and the Heritage Hills Tennis Club.  She was also a voracious reader and an avid racquetball player. Her art work was featured in numerous Heritage Hills art shows.

Roslyn Cowle is pre-deceased by her father Max, her mother Sonia, her bothers Julie and Raymond, and her son Lloyd.  She is survived by her sons

Edward, Todd, Ricky, and her daughters-in-law Donna and Debbie, along with eight grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Due to Covid restrictions, Mrs. Cowle will be interred at Sharon Gardens Cemetery in Valhalla, NY after a private funeral.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Roz’s name to the charities of your choice.
