Ramon P. Alvarez

Ramon “Ray” P. J. Alvarez, of Valhalla, N.Y., died on June 1, 2022 at New York Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital.  Ramon was born on September 2, 1930 in Hollywood, California to the late Ildeberto Israel Jose Alvarez, and Josephine Angelo Alvarez. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Gilmore Alvarez , and his children; Paul D. Alvarez (Son) (and wife Laura), Laura A. Holzer (Daughter)(and Husband Paul), and Pre-deceased by Douglas D. Alvarez (Son). By his nieces Donna, and Brenda and nephews Mark, Brad, and predeceased by his nephew Syd and their Families.  Grandchildren; Amelia (and Eric Klock), Damon, Gregory (and Alexandra), Christopher, Matthew, Kevin, and Lauren; and Great Grandson Ezra Reiner Klock.

Ray was a well renowned 32nd degree Freemason, starting his career in the Masons as a member of St. Johns Lodge, No. 1, Providence. He was active in many Fraternal organizations across New York and Rhode Island. He served in a variety of positions of leadership within different governing bodies of Freemasons included but not limited to: Past Grand Representative to the Masonic Grand Lodge of Rhode Island; Past Master Treasurer and trustee, Publicity Lodge No. 1000; Past President, Trustee and Advisor, 4 ^th Manhattan Masonic District Square Club; Commander General, Masonic War Veterans of the State Of New York Inc. (etc.).  He was awarded the DeMolay Legion Of Honor, Livingston Medal of Grand Lodge, Meritorious Service Award, and Ten Grand Master Awards of appreciation. Additionally, Ray served honorably as a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War between 1952-1954.

In his personal life, Ray was known best known  by his family and friends as a man of many talents. In addition to his cultural artistry to include tenor soloist, instrumentalist(trumpeter, pianist , harmonicist ) artist, and comedian, He and his wife Elaine enjoyed concocting extraordinary personalized birthday cakes for his family. In his free time you could often find Ramon feeding the birds in his yard while echoing the birds calls. Back-Scratches, banana’s and peanut butter, or anything sugary was certain to bring a smile to his face. Most importantly, he found great joy in making people smile and laugh. His repertoire of jokes was rather grand. His ability to recall jokes he had learned across his 9 decades of life was incredible.

The “Joke-meister” will be sorely missed by his family and friends, but will live forever in our hearts through the smiles and laughs created by his legacy. By the way… why do bees have sticky hair?
