It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Rafael Sanchez Melendez, a beloved son, father, brother, and friend, who left us peacefully on August 10, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on February 23, 1950, in Manati, Puerto Rico, Rafael's journey through life was marked by his dedicated spirit and strong work ethic.
Rafael was employed in the plumbing and heating industry, where he earned the respect and admiration of his clients and peers alike for his commitment to excellence. His work was not just a profession but a reflection of his values-integrity and dedication that he passed down to his family.
He is survived by his cherished son, Evan Sanchez, and his loving sister, Diana Villacis. Rafael's family will forever hold his memory close to their hearts, drawing strength from the lessons he imparted and the love he freely shared.
In honor of Rafael's life and legacy, a graveside service will be held at Calverton National Cemetery on August 17, 2026, at 1:00 PM. Family, friends, and all who knew Rafael are invited to join in this reflective ceremony to celebrate the man he was and the indelible mark he left on our lives.
Rafael's final resting place will be at 210 Princeton Boulevard, Calverton, NY 11933, where he will be laid to rest with the dignity and respect he truly deserves as a Vietnam Navy Veteran. As we gather to say our goodbyes, we will carry forward his spirit-one of resilience, kindness, and unwavering dedication to family and community. He will be truly missed but remembered fondly by all.
Rafael was preceded in death by his parents: Candida Sanchez and Juan Sanchez
