Rafael Ganjumyan

Rafael Ganjumyan was born and raised in Tbilisi, former Soviet Republic of Georgia and studied civil engineering at the Georgian Technical University . In 1962, he moved to Yerevan, Armenia soon after marrying his wife Laura so that they could raise their children in their homeland. Rafael worked as a civil engineer and was an adjunct professor of engineering at the National Polytechnique Institute of Armenia . In 1998, after he had retired from his professional career, he and his wife moved to the United States to be with their daughter Nooné and her family.

Growing up, he was an avid athlete and an accomplished pianist. He loved Track & Field (Athletics) and competed regularly in the 800-meter run. As he got older, he remained active in the sport as an Athletics official in the Soviet Union. Later in life, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, volunteered at St. Gregory the Enlightener Armenian Church , and always found time for exercise.

Rafael is predeceased by his parents Alexander and Nina, and his beloved wife Laura. Rafael is survived by his son Serge Gandžumian, his daughter Nooné Janjigian (Vahan), his brother Ruben, his six grandchildren Emin (Hasmik), Lori, Luciné, Ani, Lily, and Aaron, and his one great-grandchild Arno.
