Patricia "Patsy" O'Grady
Patricia O'Grady of White Plains, New York, passed away on June 22, 2024, at White Plains Hospital, surrounded by loved ones. Patsy, as she was affectionately known, was a woman whose loyalty, kindness, and generosity of spirit will be greatly missed by those she touched.
Patricia O'Grady was born on October 9, 1939, to John B. O'Grady and Flora Hagopian O'Grady. She was one of four children, including Carole, John, and the late William. Raised in the Bronx, Patsy attended Villa Maria School before earning her bachelor's degree from Manhattanville College. She was a dedicated supporter of Manhattanville, serving as a loyal alumna throughout her life with charitable contributions of both time and financial support. Patsy maintained many cherished friendships from those college days.
Patsy had a distinguished career at AT&T, a telecommunications powerhouse, where she thrived despite the professional world being less welcoming to women at the time. Her perseverance led her to become a respected and successful professional. During her time at AT&T, Patsy formed close friendships that lasted throughout her life. Her love of technology, developed during her career, continued to be a defining interest. After AT&T, Patsy worked at Strauss Paper, a family-run business, where she formed new bonds that remained strong into her retirement. She continued to read, research, and invest in technology throughout her life.
In 1973, Patsy married John Seidl, a man renowned for his culinary talent and visibility in the restaurant world. Through John, Patsy developed a passion for food and wine and assisted him in his pioneering restaurant endeavors in Westchester and Connecticut. Patsy also became a devoted stepmother to Lisa, Sharon, Chris, and Jeannie Seidl. Patsy and John shared a love of sailing, a passion they passed on to their children and her beloved nephew Dominick, for whom sailing became a lifelong pursuit. Despite their eventual divorce, Patsy and John remained in close contact.
In the mid-1980s, Patsy began a long-term companionship with Jim Powell, a relationship that lasted until Jim's death in 2021. Patsy's interests were diverse. Whether watching the NY Giants or Yankees, sailing, running, attending the NYC Ballet, or playing the piano, she shared her passions broadly, inviting friends and family to experience these moments alongside her.
Patsy is survived by her sister Carole Gelormino, and her brother John O'Grady who will remember her as a fiercely loyal sister whose love and generosity were unwavering. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Constance Cushman, her stepchildren Lisa, Sharon, Chris, and Jeannie Seidl, her nieces Louise Parzick and Shannon O'Grady, her nephews James O'Grady and Patrick O'Grady, and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Patsy's steadfast support and unyielding devotion will continue to inspire all who knew her.
