Patricia Jane Malkin, a Brooklyn-born advertising executive, writer, dancer, and lifelong romantic, died on Sept. 11th at her home in Bronxville, N.Y. She was 85.
Pat was born and spent her early years in Midwood, Brooklyn, then moved to Westfield, New Jersey as a teenager. She studied modern dance at Bennington College before turning her creative energy to writing, building a career in advertising at Saatchi & Saatchi where she won awards for her innovative work.
She was bold and unapologetic in her fashion, her opinions, and her imagination. At the same time, Pat was friendly and accessible, striking up conversations with people from all walks of life and making friends wherever she went. She saw the world in a romantic light, and later captured her adventures in several books, including a memoir.
Pat found a second home in Positano, Italy, where she lived for over 20 years in a beautiful apartment overlooking the Mediterranean that frequently served to host friends and family. She made countless friends in Italy who remember her bright outlook, sense of humor, and creativity.
She is survived by her sister Valerie Malkin and her wife Sarah Marques, her nephew Gabriel Cowles, his wife Sarah Cowles and their children Evie and Oliver, and by her beloved toy poodle Billie.
Pat was predeceased by her mother Muriel Malkin, her father Gabriel Malkin, and her sister Stephanie Cowles (nee Malkin).
