Obituary for Patricia W Ehresmann
Patricia W Ehresmann passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026 at Calvary hospital in the Bronx. She was born on June 28, 1939 in Summit, New Jersey and grew up in Union, New Jersey. She graduated from Union high school in 1957 and received a bachelor's degree in 1961 in languages from Douglas College in New Brunswick, New Jersey, majoring in German.
After graduating college she married Donald Ehresmann and began her life-long career at Random House book company in New York. After leaving home she lived in Greenwich Village over the years until she bought her house in New Rochelle in 1986 where she lived until 2024. Illness forced her to sell the house and move to assisted living at the Kensington in White Plains for the rest of her life. In 1970 she purchased a small bungalow on the north shore of Southhampton where she vacationed periodically until she sold it in the 80s.
Pat had two marriages first to Donald and later to Arthur Cohen. It was about 25 years ago that Pat met the love of her life, Gene Mohr. She remained with him until his death about 10 years ago.
Pat is predeceased by her parents William Wismar and Margaret, nee Gunn, Wismar and her sister Barbara Ferrigno and brother-in-law Charles Ferrigno. She is survived by her brother William Wismar Jr and sister-in-law Josephine Wismar, their children William III, Christopher and Paul, and the Ferrigno children James Ferrigno, Linda Giacobbe and Valerie Milne.
Pat retired from Random House as the manager of children's books in 2003. Still having a desire to be useful to the community she volunteered as the treasurer for the First Baptist Church of White Plains. This turned into almost a fulltime job over the many years she was there. Pat made many friends throughout her life based on her loving and caring attitude and will be sadly missed.
Pat had three major hobbies throughout her life. The first was her love of classical music. She played the piano starting in her teens and continued into adulthood. She later learned how to play Recorders and had a collection of various pitched ones. She also loved to sing, particularly while at church. Her next hobby was travel and she made numerous trips to Europe often visiting friends in Germany. Her last hobby was genealogy putting together the family lineage over the course of many years. Some of her travel was tied into research for this project. Of interest was she believed her mother's side was tied back to Patrick Henry and that her Irish ancestry was more Scottish than Irish.
Pat will be cremated and her ashes mixed with those of Gene and scattered over part of Germany. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a memorial service to be held on July 22, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Scarsdale Community Baptist Church, 51 Popham Road, Scarsdale, NY 10583. A repast will be held at the church following the ceremony.
Contributions may be made to the The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research in Pat's name in hopes of finding a cure.
Please email William Wismar to confirm attendance for the funeral service at Scarsdale Community Baptist Church and the repast to follow. (wwismar@comcast.net)
