Myrtle Elizabeth Nichols

June 6, 1929 — January 20, 2023

Briarcliff Manor

Myrtle Nichols, a longtime resident of Briarcliff Manor, died peacefully while surrounded by family on January 20, 2023. She was 93 years old.

Myrtle was born June 6, 1929 and was the daughter of the late Robert and Susan (Fischer) Kolb. She was a graduate of Yonkers High School and the Paine Hall School in New York City. She worked as a Medical Assistant, later attending the American Institute of banking prior to working for Yonkers Savings Bank.

Myrtle married Allen Nichols on March 18, 1961. In 1963, they moved to Briarcliff Manor, where they raised their three sons.

At age 57, Myrtle returned to school, receiving an associate's degree from Mercy College in 1989.

Myrtle enjoyed doing volunteer work for various organizations and was a member of the Fortnightly Club of Yonkers. She served as a Sunday School teacher for both the First Presbyterian Church in Yonkers and the Briarcliff Congregational Church in Briarcliff Manor, of which she was a member for 57 years.

Myrtle loved to cook, especially for holidays, and was always certain to make each person's favorite dish. She enjoyed gardening, swimming, and being outdoors; happily tolerated golf (one of Allen's passions); and had a life long love of horses. She enjoyed spending time on ranches and did volunteer work for Pegasus, an organization that uses horses to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities and challenges.

Myrtle was predeceased by Allen, her husband of 58 years, and her eldest son Robert. She is survived by Robert's widow Catherine of Ossining, NY and their children Patrick, Andrew, and Mary; son Gregory and wife Noelle of East Northport, NY and their daughters Kelsey and Alyssa; and son Douglas of Croton-on-Hudson, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pegasus Therapeutic Riding, 310 Peach Lake Road, Brewster, NY 10509; https://pegasustr.org/donate/
