Michael Wirwas

July 19, 1956 — December 14, 2021

White Plains

Mike passed away suddenly and peacefully on December 14, 2021, at the age of 65, in the comfort of his home in Mamaroneck, New York. Mike is survived by his wife, Elenita, his sisters, Nancy (Ned) and Suzanne, nephew Andy (Lindsey), niece Michelle (Jim), niece Karen (Chuck), great nephews Jackson and Will and great niece Kayla.

Mike was born in upstate, NY, to Alexander and Emily Wirwas. At the age of seven his family moved to California where he lived and thrived for the next 36 years. He was an accomplished athlete playing both football and baseball and was drafted by the Oakland A’s and Chicago White Sox coming out of Inglewood High School. He elected instead to go on to Cal State University Long Beach where he played baseball and majored in business.

Mike met Elenita, the love of his life when he was 20, and three years later they were married. They lived in Manhattan Beach, California. They were married for nearly 42 years.

He began his career partnering with his father in the fireplace business. He later transitioned into the lighting control industry with Lutron. In 1999 he and Elenita moved to New York City, and then settled in Mamaroneck, NY.  He moved from Lutron to Thea Enterprises and continued his career in the lighting control industry.

Mike was loved by his family, friends, and business associates. He was a wonderful conversationalist and a prolific storyteller. His sense of humor was always present. He and Elenita loved their pets and enjoyed long walks with their dogs. He was a wonderful, loving, caring husband and dear friend. He always gave more than he took.  He would say, “I‘m a giver.” Mike continues to touch lives through his gift of tissue donation. The two causes that were important to Mike, as an empathetic friend and a caring person, were support for mental illness and animal rescue.

His many interests included people, cooking, vegetable gardening, music, sports, and reading. It is not generally known how highly intellectual and spiritual Mike was. Mike is remembered by family and friends for his kindness, humility, integrity and for his giving of himself. Rest in Peace dear Mike, may your cherished memory be an indelible blessing to all who knew and loved you.
