Michael Duffy

Michael Duffy, a longtime resident of Hawthorne, NY passed away December 2nd at the age of 88.  Born on August 7 ^th , 1934, in Long Island City, NY to Irish immigrant parents James Duffy and Mary Gilgunn.  Michael and his sister Maureen and brother James grew up in Woodside, NY.  Michael graduated from Lasalle Academy in 1952 and joined the US Navy. In the navy he achieved the rank of petty Officer 3 ^rd class and participated in Operation Deepfreeze in 1955 and travelled via icebreaker to Antarctica.  After leaving the Navy he acquired employment with Northeastern Airlines as an Airplane Electrician.  He married the love of his life Phyllis Nunno at Saint Anne’s Church in Yonkers, NY in 1961.  He has 3 children, Patricia Janet, Michael James, and Jonathan Francis.  While working for the airline he took classes in electrical engineering at night school and was then employed by AT&T where he retired after 27 years as a Microwave Engineer.  He is predeceased by his siblings, but he is survived by 8 nieces and nephews. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y.
