Mary Alice Jannace

Mary Alice Jannace of Valhalla, N.Y. our dearest, died on Sunday, August 15th at age 90. Born and raised in White Plains, she was the daughter of Alice and Elmer Gargan and sister of Betty Ann Gargan Dolan (dec’d). Mary Alice was fun-loving and playful in youth, then a spirited adult. In 1952, she married James Jannace. He died in 1987, and she carried him in her heart all her life. Her love of family, friends, and her community of Valhalla made her life one that brought her joy. Her home was an open door to anyone who wanted to splash in the pool, sleep in a bed, enjoy a meal, or to laugh over stories. This same welcoming spirit she brought to the Vahalla Library where she worked. She and her husband were devoted to raising their six children: Christine (dec’d), Virginia (Joe) Malara of Waccabuc NY, Lisa (Bob) Meade of Hillsborough CA, Linda (Kevin) O’Leary of Darien CT, Regina Jannace of Los Angeles CA, and James (Catherine) Jannace of Redding CT. She delighted in her eight grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Reposing at Hawthorne Funeral Home, Thursday, August 19, 2021 from 5:00-8:00 P.M. A graveside farewell will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Greenburgh, N.Y. on Friday, August 20, 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made to a charity meaningful to you. **** At the request of the family, everyone is encouraged to wear a facial mask at both the funeral home and cemetery, whether you are vaccinated or not.
