Mary Lena McLynn

Mary Lena McLynn, beloved mother and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, at the age of 99. Born on January 6, 1926, in Newark, NJ, Mary spent her life embodying strength, kindness, and devotion to her family. After raising her four boys, Merle, as she was known to all, worked for both the US Post Office and Westchester County Medical Center before retiring.

Merle is survived by her four devoted sons: John, Stephen, Dennis, and Kevin McLynn and their spouses, as well as by ten loving grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was truly the matriarch of the family, filling her family's lives with wisdom, laughter, and immeasurable love.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John McLynn, and her parents, Christopher Collumb and Catherine Collumb (Fitzgerald), along with sisters Catherine, Eleanor and Peggy.

In her later years, Merle found joy in spending time with family, working on brain teaser puzzles, and watching and cheering for all sports, especially SEC Football. She was a long-time member of Holy Rosary Parish and its Rosary Altar Society; she had a strong faith in God. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, kindness, and an unwavering spirit that will be etched in the hearts of her family and friends.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 20th from 10:30-12:30 at Hawthorne Funeral Home at 21 W Stevens Avenue in Hawthorne, NY 10532. A funeral mass at Holy Rosary Church will be held immediately after, at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Mary's memory to Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne, NY, an organization that embodies the values of care and compassion that she held dear.
