MARY A. GISONDI
Mary passed on Sunday, August 16, 2026, while peacefully sleeping at home in her own bed. She was born at home in Rye, NY, to Christine (Santa Donato) and Louis Carlo, on August 23, 1931. Mary attended Rye Public Schools and graduated from Rye High School in 1949. After high school, she went to work for the Metropolitan Insurance Co. in NYC. After work each day, she went to school to become a Dental Assistant, also in NYC, being sure not to miss the last train back to Rye each night. That was pretty gutsy for a woman back then. Soon thereafter, she met the man of her dreams, Anthony, and they married in September of 1952. Her first son was born in November of 1953, and her second son came in October of 1962. The love of her life passed in July of 2012, after almost 60 years marriage. Mary was predeceased by her father, mother and brother (Thomas). Mary was quite athletic and enjoyed swimming, ice skating and tennis in her youth, and bowling and golf as an adult.
In addition to her two sons Anthony and David, and daughter-in-law Liz, David's wife, Mary had five married grandchildren, Anthony and Tiffany Gisondi of Florida, Jill (Gisondi) and Sean Wolak of New Jersey, Michael and Jessica Gisondi of Connecticut, Michelle (Gisondi) and Josh Deuink of North Carolina, and Gina (Gisondi) and Mark Carreras of Florida. Also, Mary had seven great grandchildren ranging in age from seventeen down to nine (Conor, Owen, Mason, Nolan, Ben, Adelyn, and Rita).
Not only did Mary love to travel, but her passion was cooking, baking and entertaining, especially for any holiday. Mary learned the basics as a young girl from her mother, but it wasn't until she was married that she learned all the specialties for which she was famous for, such as her sauce (gravy) and Italian cookies, which she learned from her mother-in-law. Then she shared and taught everything to her two daughters-in-law, three granddaughters, and many other family members and friends. Whether it was a 20 lb. lobster, crab sauce from live blue claw crabs, home made fresh pasta, snails, biscotti, or tarrales, she cooked and baked them all to perfection. When we all sat down to eat, and she saw the pleasure on everyone's faces, only then knowing that all the hard work and mess was well worth it.
She will surely be missed, and loved forever.
