Mary R. Ferrara

June 18, 1936 — October 28, 2022

Purdys, NY

Mary "Marilyn" R. Ferrara was the first born child to Mary and William Lodes. She was born and raised in Yonkers, New York. Marilyn lived in the Orchard Hill section of White Plains caring for her mother and until she herself was struggling with health issues. She was hospitalized and moved to the nursing care facility, Salem Hills, in March of 2020. Mary passed away on Friday, October 28 at 86 years of age due to age and Alzheimer's disease.

Marilyn moved from Yonkers to the family's Orchard Hill home during her last year of St. Barnabas High School in the Bronx. Marilyn graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel College in White Plains, New York. She married Gerald Thornton just after college graduation and had many good years raising their three daughters in Hartsdale, New York before pursuing their dreams independently. Marilyn went on to have a long and satisfying career in Westchester Family Court where she administratively supported a number of judges over the years. She met and married Alex Ferrara. They enjoyed their time together but ultimately found themselves at different points in life.  Marilyn retired, continued to care for her mom until her death, and enjoyed her grandchildren.

There was never enough time in the day for Marilyn. She was a keen follower of local and national news. Her day had a routine that included a daily visit to Dunkin' Donuts. They knew her order before she gave it to them. The franchise, no doubt, saw a decrease in sales the month Marilyn was hospitalized and moved to Salem Hills where she remained until her passing.

Marilyn is survived by her three daughters Cynthia McAleer of Norfolk, Virginia, Theresa Sorrentino of New Milford, Connecticut and Lisa Bowman of Brookfield, Connecticut;  brothers William Lodes of Manchester, New Hampshire and Carl Lodes of Wappingers Falls, New York; and grandchildren Patrick McAleer of Jacksonville, Florida, John McAleer of Annapolis, Maryland and Molly McAleer of Norfolk, Virginia - all serving as officers in the United States Navy.

Funeral Services are under the direction of the Ballard-Durand Funeral & Cremation Services, 2 Maple Ave, White Plains, NY 10601
