Mary T. Callagy 92, of White Plains, N. Y. died on June 1, 2020 in her home and is resting in peace with God. She was born on January 23, 1928 to the late Nicholas and Teresa Barbera in Brooklyn, N. Y. She married her late husband Leonard S. Callagy (Lawrence, MA) on November 11, 1956. She was predeceased by her sister and brother in law Lillian and Louis Guadagno and Godchild Lorraine Guadagno.
Mary is survived by her loving children Kevin Callagy and wife Patricia of Stamford, NY, Nicholas Callagy and wife Nancy of West Harrison, NY, and Joseph Callagy and wife Marianna of Hawthorne, NY. Mary has 10 loving grandchildren Kevin L. Callagy (Pittsburgh, PA), Christopher Callagy (Oneonta, NY), Sean Callagy (Avon, CO), Michael Callagy (Stamford, NY), Nicholas Callagy (Harrison, NY), William and Nicole Callagy (Reading, MA), Leonard Callagy (West Harrison, NY), Shannon Callagy (West Harrison, NY), Cristina and William Howery (West Haven, CT) and Joseph Callagy (Hawthorne, NY). In addition, Mary adored her six great grandchildren William, Anna, Micaela, Connor, Liam, and Dylan.
Mary enjoyed sharing special occasions and holidays with her family along with her sister Lillian’s family, Lorraine Guadagno, Linda and John Lee, Larry and Susan Guadagno and their families. Mary was an avid bridge player and instructor. A polio survivor as a child, Mary was passionate about her work with the Westchester Post Polio Syndrome Association. Advocating for health resources and public access to buildings and parks for those with disabilities. Mary loved letter writing, puzzles and tinkered with painting as well. Mary loved and lived her faith in Christ and believed in the power of prayer.
A Funeral Mass at Holy Rosary Church in Hawthorne, N.Y. will be held on Monday, June 29th at 12:30 PM. Following the service, there will be a celebration of life held at a venue to be announced by the family. A private burial will be held on June 30th at the Long Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Tribute to Mary’s name to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
