Martin T. Limmer (Sonny), 81, of Ossining, N.Y., passed away peacefully at home on December 18th, 2025. Sonny, a loving nickname given by his parents, was one of two children of the late Martin T. Limmer Sr. and Anna Limmer.
Martin is survived by his beloved wife Maura Rodriguez Limmer, 76; sister Rosemarie Tinkler, 86; son Mannix Rodriguez Castro, 49; daughter Michelle (Castro) Curry, 46, and son-in-law, Luke Curry, 48; grandchildren, Mannix James Castro, 22, and Allen Luke Curry, 5; as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-grand nieces and nephews of who were all constant sources of pride in his life.
Martin was born in White Plains, N.Y. and later lived in Ossining. He served honorably in the U.S. Army after high school.
His father, a well-respected baker, who once made cakes for the Roosevelts, instilled in him the lessons of hard work, saving, and earning his own way. Modest, unpretentious, and private by nature, Martin chose baking not just as a profession, but as a way to live with purpose and dedication. He valued integrity over possessions or recognition. He met his wife while working as a baker at Dunkin' Donuts, and they shared 39 years of marriage, raising two of her children together.
Martin also worked at Jespersen's in Scarsdale, where he was one of the few to make the famous Sarah Bernhardt cookies, shaping, rolling and carefully dipping each in semisweet chocolate by hand. Later, he continued his work in Mamaroneck, N.Y. He showed his love through small, meaningful acts-baking holiday pies for close family and friends, tending the garden and fixing little things around the house. He enjoyed golf, reading, and watching Jeopardy! with his wife. He was a good man.
He was lovingly cared for by family who stayed with him until his final moments. He found joy in the simple rhythm of daily life, and that is how he will always be remembered. May he rest in peace.
In lieu of flowers, we warmly invite you to honor his life by sharing a memory.
At his request, no formal service will be held.
We welcome you to remember him in your own private way. We know he will be with us all in spirit. Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time.
