Martin T Limmer, 81, passed away peacefully at home on December 18th, 2025. Sonny, a loving nickname given by his parents, was the youngest of two children of the late Martin and Anna Limmer.

Martin is survived by his beloved wife, Maura; stepson, Mannix and his son, Mannix Jr; stepdaughter, Michelle, son-in-law, Luke, and their son, Allen; sister, Rosemarie, and her children, Deb, Doug, Steve, and Gary; as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-grand nieces and nephews of who were all constant sources of pride in his life.

Martin was born in White Plains and later lived in Ossining. He served honorably in the U.S. Army after high school.

His father, appointed twice Exalted Ruler of the Elks and a pastry chef who once baked for the Roosevelts, passed down a deep respect for hard work, patriotism, saving, and earning one’s own way. Modest, unpretentious and private by nature, Martin chose baking not just as a job, but as a way to live with purpose. He valued integrity more than possessions or recognition. He met his wife while working as a baker at Dunkin’ Donuts, and they shared 39 years of marriage, raising her children together as his own.

Martin first started baking at his father’s french bakery, Chantecler. After serving in the army, he worked at Jespersen’s, where he was one of the few to make the famous Sarah Bernhardt cookies, shaping, rolling and carefully dipping each in semisweet dark chocolate by hand, featured in The New York Times article, “A Macaroon Called Sarah Bernhardt.” He showed his love through small, meaningful acts, from baking holiday pies for close family and friends, tending the garden and fixing little things around the house. He enjoyed golf, chess, running, reading and watching Jeopardy! with his wife. He was a good man.

He was lovingly cared for by family who stayed with him until his final moments. He found joy in the simple rhythm of daily life, and that is how he will always be remembered. May he rest in peace.

In lieu of flowers, we warmly invite you to honor his life by sharing a memory.

At his request, no formal service will be held.

We welcome you to remember him in your own private way. We know he will be with us all in spirit. Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time.
