Lucy Mary (Ranilla) Landi

May 7,1947-February 21, 2022

Lucy M Landi, a lifelong New Rochelle resident, died peacefully and surrounded by love on February 21,2022. Lovingly referred to as “Big Lu” or just “Biggie”, Lucy was the rock, the heart and soul of the family.

She wore too many hats in her life to be defined by, but she was the absolute epitome of hard work, strength, sacrifice, dedication and determination.

To know Lucy was to know one of the most fun loving, energetic and caring people in the world. If she loved you, you knew it. She could make anyone feel like family and anyone who met her could tell how special she was.

Nothing meant more to her than her family, and one way she chose to express that love was thru cooking and baking for them. Sometimes for days in preparation for family dinners and holidays.

Lucy was a true “working woman“ who built her own computer hardware sales company and later worked as a business manager for several small businesses, and many of the people she worked with become family.

Lucy’s truest joy and purpose came to be as each of her seven grandchildren were born. Once she became “Gammy” or “Grandma Lucy”, she made helping raise her grandchildren her priority. They all were blessed with years of endless love, babysitting, sleepovers, vacations, holiday celebrations and were showered with gifts. They were the luckiest kids in the world.

She loved renovating and helping with construction projects, especially with her son-in-law Darren. Together they painted countless rooms, planted yards of sod, refinished doors, installed miles of molding and countless door knobs. Her energy was boundless and she was always there to help.

She delighted in traveling with her family, most recently to Rome, Sicily and Turks and Caicos. But her favorite travel was to her sons home in Delray Beach, FL or her daughters home in Brant Beach, NJ. The precious times spent there will be what comforts us as we face the years without her.

In 2010 Lucy was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer, when many of her grandchildren were still very young. She vowed to fight this near impossible battle for them, which she did for an unimaginable 11 years. The ferocity of her fight, which led to the length of her survival, is nothing short of miraculous. Her loving family is thankful every day for those precious years.

Lucy was predeceased by her husband Frank J Landi, Sr. in 2021.  She is survived by her mother, Antoinnette Ranilla of New Rochelle; her adoring children: Frank J Landi, Jr. of South Orange, NJ and Lucy Landi Forcino and her husband Darren of Armonk; her seven beloved grandchildren: Isabella, Gavin, Brooke and Rowan Landi; and Darcy, Marcus and Violet Forcino.

She was also the cherished sister of Pauline Ludwiczak and Frank and Nancy Ranilla. She was the best Aunt there ever was to Robert Ludwiczak, Catherine Hanlon, Joseph Ranilla, Carolina Ranilla and Alexandra Ranilla. Lucy is also survived by many adoring cousins on both sides of her family, treasured life long friends and many of her children’s friends who became like children to her. She will be forever missed by all who loved her.
