Lorraine Selina Minard Volpe 83, formerly of Hawthorne, N.Y.

We regretfully announce the passing of Lorraine Selina Minard Volpe of Newfield, New York on September 16 th , 2021.

Lorraine Selina Minard Volpe was born on December 8 th , 1937 to Benjamin Minard and Dorothy Miller in Mount Vernon, New York.

Lorraine was one of the strongest, wisest, kindest and the most generous woman to ever walk this earth. Our family was blessed to have her as the matriarch of the family. She would do anything for her family at the drop of a hat. Lorraine graduated from Resurrection Academy in 1956. After graduating, she went on to work at the New York Telephone company which later became Verizon. She worked as a volunteer with the Hawthorne Ambulance Corps and also a member of the Hawthorne Fire Dept. attaining the rank of President and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. For many years, Lorraine enjoyed her time driving a bus for the school. She would often volunteer at book fairs because she loved books so much she would spend time reading to the children. Lorraine spent her time watching almost all of her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She played card games like Solitaire and could do outrageous crosswords or puzzles of all kinds. She stayed sharp her whole life. There was no doubt about it.

On September 12, 1959, she married her life partner, soulmate, best friend, and everything in between, Edmund Volpe. Together they went on to have 4 lovely children.

Lorraine was predeceased by her husband Edmund Volpe (11/29/20),  her beloved daughter Kathleen Volpe (01/12/17), brother Benjamin Minard (10/06/16) and his wife (Susan). Her Godmother Delia Hussey (11/24/2003). She is survived by her sister Eileen Casper (Richard) of Bethpage, NY. And survived by her sons, Edmund (Terri Sheehy) of Rye, Robert (Suzanne Becht) of North Salem, James (Bobbie Leggio) of Sleepy Hollow. Her beloved grandchildren Emilie, Gianna, Jamie, Jake, Taylor, Riley, Aidan and Ronan Volpe. The family bond, and the respect the family has for Lorraine is unmatched. She will always live on in each of us because of the loving impact she has made on each of our lives.

Lorraine was an avid Hen Islander in Rye, New York. It was and still is a place her and the family call a home away from home. The cottages are a staple of Lorraine’s family tree, her parents were the ones who had originally introduced it into the family. Lorraine knew the importance of taking care of their camps. She served as a board member and the President for many years. Due to her efforts she was able to spend sunny days laughing and enjoying the company of her family and friends, kids and grandkids. That is really what was near and dear to her heart. Lorraine was happiest spending time with her grandchildren.

To say Lorraine was a superwoman would be an understatement. She was everything you needed in someone and more. She has left behind so much good. The world will miss her presence but can rest easy knowing we have a beautiful soul watching over.
