Loretta (Gross) Fabel

Loretta Gross Fabel, 82, passed away on March 5, 2023, at Cavalry Hospital, Bronx, NY after a courageous battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome/Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Loretta, the daughter of David Gross and Amanda Arndt Gross, was born on March 25, 1940, in White Plains, NY. A 1958 graduate of White Plains High School, and after receiving a bachelor's degree, Loretta went on to earn her Master of Social Work (MSW) from NYU, thereafter receiving her LCSW. As Supervising Social Worker at Westchester County Medical Center, including the Oncology Department, Loretta was a motivating force in the establishment of the hospital's Caregiver Center. She was an influential member of the Westchester County social work community and had significant positive impacts on so many lives, including families, public and private sector community partners, and social work colleagues.

On June 19, 1960, Loretta married Bernard Fabel, in White Plains, NY. The couple had 4 children, David Alan, Jeffrey Scott [12/27/67 - 4/12/68], Andrew Jonathan, and Alison Dale.

Widely read, Loretta was an avid world traveler, a bridge, Mah Jong, and Canasta player, a crossword puzzle fan, a gardener, a museum buff, and had a broad culinary palette.

Loretta is survived by Bernard Fabel, children David, Andrew (Suzanne), and Alison Fabel Zarin (David), and grandchildren Austin, Brandon, Cameron, Joshua Zarin, Jessica Zarin, and Charles Fabel, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Loretta is preceded in death by her father, David Gross, mother, Amanda Gross, and brother, Irving Gross.

A service for Loretta will be held at 9:30am on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Ballard-Durand, 2 Maple Ave, White Plains, NY.

Shiva information will be provided at the conclusion of the service.

Burial: Sharon Gardens Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.
