Joseph Battista

Joseph Battista of Hawthorne, NY passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday January 28.   He was 94 years old.  

He was born on January 17, 1930 to the late Antonio and Mariannina Battista in Casalciprano Campobasso, Italy. He was tailor by trade and after years of operating a family business in Mt. Vernon, he opened Battista Formal Wear in Thornwood, N.Y.   There he and his wife ran a successful business until their retirement in 1993. 

Joe was a member of the Mt.Pleasant Italian American Club and could be found many nights playing bocce ball with his fellow club members.  He was also an avid soccer fan and enjoyed watching games every Sunday morning.  

He is survived by his loving children, Angelo (Lesley) Battista of Cross River, N.Y. and Marianna Golden of Hopewell Jct., N.Y.  He is also survived by his five cherished grandchildren, Rosanne (Ray) Damude, Marissa Battista, and EJ, Matthew and Robert Golden, and one sister, Carmelina of Casalciprano, Italy. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Lidia, his son-in-law, Eddie, as well as his two sisters and four brothers. 

The family would like to thank Hospice of Putnam and Westchester for their care and compassion during this time.  We also owe our deepest gratitude to Joe’s home health aide, Viola, whose love and dedication to his well being, helped him find peace and comfort in his final months.
