Joseph Basile, known to everyone as "Nelson", 92, a lifelong resident of Scarsdale, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026. Nelson was a proud U.S. Navy veteran who served aboard the USS DeLong. He was an accomplished bowler, known to bowl perfect games. He also enjoyed golf and spent many wonderful years traveling with his beloved wife, Sythie.

Born on October 27, 1933, in Bronxville, NY, Nelson was the son of the late John A. and Antoinette (nee Roberto) Basile.

Nelson was predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Forsyth "Sythie" Basile; his brothers, Peter, Frank, John, and Michael; his sisters, Teresa and Kathleen; and his nephews, Peter Matthews and Craig Dalrymple.

Nelson is survived by his Godson John Pugni (Christina; Jonathan and Salvatore); and his nieces and nephews Michael (Debbie) Basile, Kenneth (Marie) Basile, John Basile, Jody (Wayne) Coluccini, Thomas (Nancy) Morris, Michele Morris, Craig (Denise) Morris, Karen (Ronald) Link, Kathleen Matthews, Richard Matthews, and James Dalrymple.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, September 28, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home in Hawthorne, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 29 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale at 10 AM. Internment to follow at Holy Mount Cemetery, Eastchester, NY
