John R. Plotke

September 26, 1935 — November 27, 2023

White Plains

John was the youngest child of Adolph and Stephania (nee: Pstruszynski) Plotke. He was born in the Bronx and grew up in Manhattan where he attended primary and secondary schools. Living in New York City he was introduced to many forms of art at a young age, and his love of the arts continued throughout his life.

John attended City College as well as RCA Institute where he was certified in Advanced Electronics Technology. After college he served in the army, where he was stationed in Germany. This was his introduction to his father's native country, and the beginning of his curiosity of other cultures. Upon returning home from the service, he moved to Putnam County and began his career with IBM.

John was truly a man in motion. He became a world traveler and visited many countries around the globe. He also traveled extensively across the USA. He enjoyed walking, hiking, running marathons, boating, kayaking, and swimming, as well as cross country and downhill skiing. John spent his free time reading, watching old movies and listening to music. He enjoyed visiting art exhibitions, museums, the opera, and Broadway productions. He preferred old to new and you could frequently find him rummaging in thrift shops or at tag sales looking for practical items as well as treasures.

He was a critical thinker, always good with numbers, and he enjoyed working with his hands. Many times you could find him fixing, tinkering, or creating his own quirky artwork which he proudly displayed in and around his home. His favorite subject was Betty Boop. He created and displayed several Betty Boop pieces in his front yard for passersby to enjoy.

John believed in giving back to the community. He was a supporter of local and national charities, with a penchant for St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Although he never married, his life was filled with friends, his extended family, and the arts that he loved. He lived a full life on his own independent terms, and he will be deeply missed by everyone who loved him.

John was predeceased by his oldest sister, Caroline. He is survived by his sister Marian, five nieces, two nephews and extended family.
