John J. Magaletta

            John J. Magaletta of Thornwood, NY passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Saturday, January 20, 2024. John was born to Anna Maria (Colacurcio) and Rocco Magaletta on October 1, 1927 in Yonkers, NY. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years Grace (Ippoliti) Magaletta in 2013, as well as several brothers and sisters-in-law. 

            John was a graduate of Saunders Trade School in Yonkers, NY, and was employed by the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company for 46 years, retired in 1993. As a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Dominic’s Council 4399 (K of C) of Thornwood since the early 1960s, he served as Grand Knight from 1972-1974. John, in addition to other founding members, spearheaded the building dedication of the Pioneer Five Fire Company to the Council in 1965. John was also a mentor of the K of C Squires Youth Group through the 1970s. During his retirement, John was an active and civic-minded resident, a charter member and active volunteer of the Holy Rosary Bazaar, ensuring consistent donations to the Dominican Sisters of Rosary Hill Home, volunteering on the Westchester County Board of Elections, K of C Free Throw Competition, in addition to countless other charities. 

            John is survived by his loving daughter, Annmarie Magaletta Cavaliere of Thornwood, NY, and two cherished grandchildren and their families. Jason Cavaliere (Irina Eschenbach) of Carmel, NY, and Melissa Cavaliere (Tom Misito) of Bedford, NY, as well as his brother-in-law Joseph DeLosa of Thronwood, NY and several nieces and nephews.
