Jerry Shallo, a resident of West Harrison (Silver Lake) for over 70 years, passed away peacefully on April 5. Born in the Bronx on February 8, 1925, he was the 10th of 11 children to Josephine and Jerry Sr.

At the age of 18 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served as Boatswain's Mate 1st Class. His service and bravery is etched in history, having participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy, a pivotal moment in World War II. Jerry was among the first to drive a landing craft across the Rhine River with General Patton's forces. Jerry was a true war hero.

Following the war, Jerry returned home to the Bronx and met the love of his life, Annette Colombo. The two were married in April 1947 and built a beautiful life together in West Harrison, NY. They welcomed three children, Jerry (Kathy), Gary (Mary Jean), and Mary Alice (Tom).

Jerry and his brothers owned and operated Greatway Meat Market and Shallo Brothers Market in West Harrison.

Jerry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. In addition to his three children, he is survived by two brothers (Louis and James), sister-in-law Rose, seven grandchildren (Frank, Sabrina, Gerard, Jennifer, John, Alison, and Grayson) as well as six great-grandchildren. They will all cherish his memory.

Visitation will be at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Avenue, White Plains, NY on Sunday, April 7 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Monday April 8 at St. Anthony's parish in West Harrison. In lieu of flowers, Jerry's family request donations be made to St. Jude's or Wounded Warriors.

Jerry will long be remembered for his love of golf, generous and welcoming spirit, and his "beauty-ful" outlook on life.
