Janice (Jan) Marie Conte Green passed away on June 3, 2026 at the age of 70.

Jan grew up in Pelham, New York and graduated from Boston College, later obtaining Masters degrees from both NYU and Manhattanville University.

She was an educator who taught at every level over the years, from preschool to university students. She loved poetry, theatre, dance, and music of all genres. She relished sharing the arts with others, especially her parents, Dr. Alexander and Frances Conte, and her sister, Barbara Conte Lavery. Health challenges did not stop Jan from forging lasting friendships that endured over decades, even as her own memory began to fade.

Jan enjoyed travel, photography, spirituality, and the ocean.

Jan is survived by her daughters (Allison and Samantha), son-in-law (Drew), granddaughters (Nora and Mari), niece (Cathryn), brother (Richard), sister-in-law (Donna), and her nephew (Gregory). The family is indebted in gratitude to those who provided loving care to her over the last 6 years, especially: Mariame, Joan, Fatima, Dee, Akua, Gifty, Maami, Ada, and, Shernette, as well as Melissa Nielsen.

One of Jan's favorite roles on stage was playing Anne Sullivan in The Miracle Worker, a play which reminds us of this truth: "When we do the best we can, we never know what miracle is wrought in our life, or in the life of another." Like many of us, Jan's life was complicated. But she did her best, and left miracles behind.
