Irene (Reenie) Janet Benedetto, of West Harrison, New York, and Bozrah, Connecticut, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family at the age of 78 on February 14th, 2026.

Born and raised in Rye, New York, Irene attended Resurrection Grammar School and the Academy of the Resurrection before graduating from the College of New Rochelle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Glasheen, and her sister, Cathy Holden. Irene's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 56 years, Frank Benedetto; her cherished children, Alice, Frank, William, and Julie; her beloved daughter-in-law, Juliana; and her treasured grandchildren, Octavio, Chaya, Dominic, Nicholas, and Bridget, each of whom brought immense pride and happiness to her life. She is also survived by her siblings, Joan Wickham, John Glasheen, Patricia Lynch, and Peter Glasheen, along with many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dear lifelong friends, Gay Fisher Tincher and Ginny Berquist Mora, whose friendships spanned decades and remained a constant source of laughter, support, and love.

Irene devoted many years to her professional life, and her warmth and dependability were felt by everyone who worked with her. Her career included teaching at St. Theresa's Grammar School, working as a switchboard operator at St. Vincent's Hospital, and working at Ridge Door Sales, before becoming a longtime Westchester County employee. She served in administrative roles at Westchester Community College, the Department of Public Works, and ultimately as Executive Secretary at the Westchester County Medical Examiner's Office, from which she retired. In every role, Irene was known for her commitment, professionalism, and dedication.

In retirement, Irene loved spending her summers at Gardner Lake where her family vacationed ever since her father built a home there in the 1920's and helped establish the Bozrah Volunteer Fire Department in 1950. She also enjoyed family trips to Bethany Beach, Delaware. Irene showed her love by always being there, never missing a birthday, always picking up the phone, and helping with grandkids. She had a witty sense of humor, she gave generously, always showed support and made sure the people she loved were taken care of.

A memorial service will be held February 21st, 2026 from 10am-1pm at Ballard-Durand 21 W Steven St. Valhalla N.Y. All are welcome.
