Ira David Weiss, 78, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, after a long illness.
Ira was born on September 4, 1947 in Manhattan and grew up in The Bronx, NY. He was a graduate of Hunter College and NYU Stern School of Business, from which he respectively earned a BA in Economics and MBA in Finance (while serving in The National Guard in between). Upon the completion of his two degrees, he pursued his dream career, where he worked for the National Association of Securities Dealers and Merrill Lynch. After his retirement, he became an adjunct professor of economics.
Ira was intelligent, witty, funny, thoughtful, hardworking, and unbelievably resilient. Throughout his life, he maintained his passion for finance, as he was constantly keeping a close eye on the stock market. He prioritized exercise and a healthy diet but never turned down anything chocolate or a Diet Coke! Most importantly, he was a loving and loyal family man, whose wife and children meant the world to him. He didn't ask for much in life and was truly the happiest when spending time with them.
Ira was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Molly Weiss (née Donovetsky,) and older sister, Carol. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Costa, daughters Cristen Weiss and Hannah Weiss, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, we invite you to honor his memory by making a donation to the American Stroke Foundation.
