Harold (Tim) Walter Moore

Harold (Tim) Moore, former White Plains High School teacher and administrator and long-time resident of Valhalla, NY, died on February 24th, 2020 at the age of 75.

Tim is survived by his wife Donna (née DeFiore); his sons, Todd M. and Daniel S Moore, his daughter-in law, Alexsis Ramos de Moore, and his Granddaughter, Margot Miriam Moore.  He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Richard (Dick) Moore.  His survivors also include his sister-in-law Elouise Moore (née Thomas), her husband, Tom Woodrow and his many nieces and nephews including Mark and Penny (McClure) Moore, their 3 children and 4 granddaughters; Michael and Darla (Damazo) Moore and their 2 children; and Tammy (Moore) and husband, Wally Titter.

Tim was born on September 25th, 1944 in Saxton, PA to Ralph Nevins Moore and Miriam Jane Moore (née Bergstresser).

Tim’s childhood in Central Pennsylvania inspired a lifelong love of the outdoors.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and exploring the mountains.  In High School he was a drummer in the band and helped lead his basketball team to a state championship.

Once Tim left Pennsylvania he began exploring the country as a college student, earning credits and degrees, including a B.S. in Education and an M.A. in Science Education, from Shippensburg State University, Bucknell University, Fisk University in Nashville, TN, Yeshiva University in Manhattan, NY, San Diego State College and NYU.

A long career in education began when Tim taught Science at Holidaysburg High School in Holidaysburg, PA from 1965-1967.  Tim then began his long tenure at White Plains High School where he was a Chemistry and then Physics Teacher which he loved.  He became an Assistant House Director, House Administrator and Interim Assistant Principal.  At White Plains High School Tim also helped advise student government, the Computer Committee and the Ski and Outing Club.  Tim was a well-respected teacher and administrator who is remembered by all as a stern disciplinarian and an unfailingly kind man.

Tim married Donna DeFiore on March 3rd, 1979.  Their two sons, Todd and Danny were the pride of his life.  He shared his love of the outdoors and his fix-it sensibilities with them who continue this legacy in their own lives by camping, hiking and never buying something new when they can fix what they already have.  Tim guided both his sons through Scouting and both of them earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

Tim and Donna enjoyed many years of refinishing and collecting vintage furniture vintage glass, and other collectibles.  Tools and gadgets were Tim's favorite things to collect.

An avid traveler, Tim has driven across the United States many times and visited more countries than his family can remember.  He was an adventurer and explorer with a passion for seeing new things. Summers were spent with family and friends in Ocean City, NJ where Tim could always be found with a huge bag of roasted peanuts while walking on the boardwalk.

He loved gardening and sharing tomatoes and other vegetables he grew with friends and neighbors and passersby on occasion.  Tim accepted all people without judgment.  He was generous of time and spirit and he always, always had fruit for his beloved Granddaughter, Margot.

Visitation will take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 28th at the Hawthorne Funeral Home in Hawthorne, NY.  A funeral service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, February 29th at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
