Geraldine "Gerry" Ellen Coleman

Gerry was born to Matthew and Catherine Hartmann in Mt. Vernon, NY. on June 12, 1937. In 1957 Gerry married the love of her life, Edward “Ed” C. Coleman and they shared 41 years together until his passing. They were blessed with eight children. As a loving mother, Gerry was preceded in death by Cheryl Ann, baby Eddie, and baby Joseph. She is survived by Ellen, Edward, Brian (Sharon), Jennifer (Thomas), and Claire. Gerry was a caring grandma to ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her brother Donald Hartmann and first cousin Winifred Finehout. 

Gerry graduated from Mt. Vernon School of Nursing and spent most of her career working in the emergency department at Mt. Vernon Hospital. She raised her family in Hawthorne, NY and retired to the Pocono Mountains and Florida with her beloved husband. During her many years in Florida, she enjoyed serving her community, swimming, knitting, and spending time with family and friends. Gerry’s resilence, strength, and sense of humor were an encouragement to those who knew her well. 

Gerry passed away peacefully at Sarasota Memorial Hospital on January 24th, 2026. A Catholic mass at Holy Rosary Church in Hawthorne, NY is scheduled for April 25, 2026 at 10am with the burial at The Gate of Heaven Cemetery immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an organization that she supported and trusted, The Salvation Army.
