In Loving Memory of Georgia Mae Kyle
Georgia Mae Kyle, age 96, peacefully entered eternal rest surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, January 16, 2025. Born on April 3, 1928, in Scotland Neck, North Carolina, to the late Nannie Evans and James R. Evans, she was named after her cherished grandmother, Georgianna James. At age three, she moved to Tarrytown, New York, where she attended local schools, graduating from Washington Irving High School. She furthered her education at Westchester Community College and the University of Connecticut, and was an esteemed Honorary Member of the Westchester Bennett College Alumni Association.
A Life of Faith & Service
Georgia's mother, Nannie, a devoted member and usher at Shiloh Baptist Church, instilled in her a deep love for God. Georgia actively participated in Bible studies, sang in the church choir, and maintained a strong faith throughout her life. Even when health limitations prevented in-person attendance, she faithfully joined services virtually. She grew up and was a long-time member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Tarrytown and Star Bethlehem Church in Ossining. Georgia was a dedicated member of Union Baptist Church in White Plains, New York for over four decades and treasured her Union Family.
Georgia's natural elegance, stunning hair, and impeccable style launched her early modeling career in Harlem, where she graced the pages of several prominent Black publications across New York City. Later, she embarked on a fulfilling career as a public servant for Westchester County. Her roles included positions at Grassland Hospital (Westchester County Medical Center), Westchester Community College, and the Department of Social Services. As an eligibility examiner at the Department of Social Services, she served countless families in White Plains, Elmsford, Tarrytown, and Ossining with unwavering dedication and compassion, leaving a lasting positive impact on their lives. After 38 years of dedicated service, she retired.
Georgia's strong work ethic and passion for education continued beyond her professional career. She volunteered as a Foster Grandparent at the Louis Bronz Child Day Care, where she nurtured young minds by reading and caring for children in Greenburgh. She also worked part-time at a title company in Bronxville, New York. In 1992, she made the joyful decision to prioritize family, travel, and caring for her grandchildren.
A Loving Family & A Life Well-Lived
In the close-knit community of Tarrytown, Georgia met her beloved husband, the late Charles Eugene Kyle. Their love story blossomed, leading to their marriage and the birth of four children. Georgia instilled strong faith in her children, actively involving them in the life of Shiloh Baptist Church. She created a nurturing learning environment, often taking them to experience the cultural richness of New York City through church-organized events and plays.
Family was the cornerstone of Georgia's life. Her love for her loved ones was boundless, especially for her grandchildren who were the apples of her eye. With a big heart and a wonderful sense of humor, she cherished strong family relationships. Whether they were blood relatives or friends she considered family, she treated everyone with the same warmth and affection.
Georgia's zest for life shone through in her many interests. She was an avid reader, a seasoned traveler, and an enthusiastic shopper. Her keen sense of style was an inspiration to all who knew her. You could often find her lost in the aisles of Lord & Taylor, much to the amusement of her family!
Georgia took pride in her appearance, not out of vanity, but as a reflection of her family's values. She instilled this importance in her children, reminding them that how they presented themselves was a reflection of their family's pride. She delighted in choosing outfits for her daughters, often dressing them alike and styling their hair with flair. Even in her later years, her fashion advice was always on point, and she spent countless hours shopping for the perfect outfits for her loved ones.
Beyond her love for fashion, Georgia enjoyed a wide range of interests. She found joy in cooking, tending to her garden, socializing at card parties, and cheering on her favorite sports teams. Her musical tastes were eclectic, with a deep appreciation for both the soulful sounds of Gospel and the heartfelt melodies of Country music.
