It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of George Robinson, the patriarch of our family - a man of character, integrity and quiet generosity & grace. George was born on June 26, 1934, in Colon, Panama and transitioned out of this life on May 21, 2026. Through his journey of almost 92 years, he touched many lives with his wisdom, advice and an unwavering spirit of resilience.

In 1958, George came to the US in his mid-20s from Panama. Within one year of his arrival, he was drafted to the US army. He served a little less than two years and achieved the rank of Specialist Four (SP4) before his honorable discharge. As a part of his military service, he was deployed to Germany during extremely cold weather conditions.

After returning to the US, George had an undying thirst for knowledge. He graduated from Long Island University with a master's degree in urban planning and NYU with a master's degree in real estate. He utilized this education to establish his 28-year career at the Port Authority of NY/ NJ (PANYNJ) - as an associate architect. He was a party to class action lawsuits to raise awareness and fight for fairness in hiring practices for Black employees at the PANYNJ.

After meeting his wife, Coral Robinson, George purchased a house in the Bronx to ensure that his wife and children would have a comfortable place to live. However, his generosity did not stop with his family. Over the years, George sponsored numerous people for green cards/ citizenship, supported numerous people through renting out apartments to family and friends and always responded to calls for personal and professional assistance. His charity allowed many people to get established and lead great careers/ lives in the US.

George Robinson lived his life based on the principles of hard work and education as the key to unlock success in this country. He prepared his children for a tough world with lessons about our leaders such as Mary McLeod Bethune, Shirley Chisolm, Jesse Jackson, Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. George taught his kids to lead with compassion and serve our fellow man and woman.

He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

He is survived by his loving wife, Coral Robinson - with whom he was married for 48 years and his children, James Bynoe, Lisa Somersel, Juliette Sutherland and Greg Robinson - and grandkids -- Christopher, Josiah, Isabel, Jaylyn, Mia and Nyah, who were the lights of his life. Additionally, he leaves behind his sister, Elvira Hall and her kids, cousin, Esmeralda Paul and her kids, sister-in-law, Rose Robinson and many other family members and friends.
